Born in Salisbury Rhodesia (now Harare Zimbabwe) to a teenage Zambian mother and a 40+ Malawian father. The family grew to three pre-school children before the stormy marriage broke up. Abandoned in the streets at age 7 Stephen moved between abuse in orphanges to abuse among relatives until at the age 10 he ran away. Living on the streets, raiding the garbage of rich white people, Steve lived under a bridge and joined a violent gang - "The Black Shadows" that he eventually led.

Steve hated God for what had happened to him and he hated white people who had 'everything' while Blacks starved. Aged 18 when the Rhodesia/Zimbabwe liberation struggle began he was ready to use his gang to fight for freedom.

Little did Steve know that in the midst of this time of national revolution there would come an inner revolution in his life.

That story of totally amazing grace is powerfully told by the man who found a faith deep enough to heal all his wounds. Steve also found a loving circle of people who taught him to read and write at age 21, sent him to Bible College where he found a praying wife who encouraged his growing preaching ministry that now spans the globe.

Steve joined African Enterprise (AE) in 1982 as our leader in Malawi. He became Deputy International leader in 1998 and was elected in 2005 to succeed AE Founder Michael Cassidy as the CEO of the world-wide ministry with effect from August 2006.
